CHICAGO — A man is in critical condition after being shot while he was driving in Austin Wednesday morning, police said.

The 20-year-old victim was driving north in the first block of North Central Avenue about 10:45 a.m. when a red minivan pulled alongside his car and opened fire, said Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman.

The man was hit in his face and taken to Stroger Hospital, Estrada said.

The shooting is believed to be gang-related based on the victim's gang affiliations, Estrada said.

In a separate shooting in Englewood, a 28-year-old man was wounded while riding in a van in the 6600 block of South Union Avenue in Englewood, police said.

The incident occurred at 4:25 p.m., when another vehicle drove up and shot into the van.

The victim, a documented gang member, was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where he is in good condition after being shot in the ear.
