CHICAGO — A pop-up popcorn shop will only be around until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Heritage Green Park, 610 W. Adams St.

The popcorn stand is selling Burr Ridge-based Popcorn Palace's cheddar, brown sugar caramel, kettle corn and cheddarific flavors for $6 a bag. The shop is run by GameWisp, a gaming video-sharing platform in Chicago until late August for TechStars, as part of a competition to sell the most bags of popcorn.

TechStars is a three-month program aimed at helping start-up companies grow and develop their products. Nashville company GameWisp is competing against nine other companies — some, like WeDeliver from Chicago — in the TechStars program.

"We've been reaching out to some local businesses and coffee shops and individuals," said GameWisp co-founder Aaron Middleton. "Obviously trying to do this very quickly is a little stressful, but it's also fun."

GameWisp team members were also willing to make deliveries ordered through their website if that's what it took to sell the most popcorn. The TechStars teams have up to 400 bags to sell.

Middleton said the participating companies were asked to sell the popcorn as their first assignment from TechStars to "figure out how to execute very quickly on an idea." The winner would be based on who sold the most popcorn.
