CHICAGO — Police patrols focused on gang violence have increased following a suspect gang-related shooting Wednesday in Edgewater, said Ald. Harry Osterman (48th).
Osterman, in an email to constituents, said a group of gang members from Rogers Park stopped their car near the intersection of Glenlake and Clark streets to attack a rival gang member who was walking on the street.
The rival gang member pulled a handgun from the bag of a woman he was with and fired shots at the people in the car, Osterman said. Police said one man, 20, was shot in the wrist about 4 p.m. Wednesday, and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.
Police interviewed the wounded man, but no arrests were made, Osterman said.
He said in addition to increasing the police presence from the Foster and Rogers Park districts, he's been in contact with officials at Senn High School to "ensure safety in and around the school."
Osterman will join commanders from the police districts June 2 at 7 p.m. for a Summer Public Safety Meeting at Broadway Armory Park, 5917 N. Broadway.
