CHICAGO — An 18-year-old man died early Tuesday after he was shot on the West Side over the weekend, authorities said.

Juwan Williams, of the 4000 block of West Arthington Street, was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Williams was shot Sunday evening just a block and a half from his home in West Garfield Park.

The teen was standing with a group of people in the 3900 block of West Polk Street about 6:25 p.m. when two people, one of whom had a gun, approached the group, said Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman.

The gunman opened fire, hitting Williams in his head, chest and arm, Estrada said. The teen was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition Sunday.

Authorities said they were investigating whether the shooting was gang-related and said the teen had gang ties. No one was in custody in connection with the shooting as of early Tuesday morning.
