JEFFERSON PARK — An online competition, sponsored by Ald. John Arena (45th), picked the best bar, best restaurant, best retail shop, best neighbor, best business neighbor and best community organization or nonprofit group in the 45th Ward.
The contest was designed to shine a spotlight on the people and businesses that make the 45th Ward "a great place to live and work," according to contest organizers.
The winners were announced recently at a fundraiser to benefit Friends of 45, which funds the 45th Ward Independent Democrats as well as Arena's upcoming bid for re-election as 45th Ward committeeman.
The ward includes Jefferson Park, Forest Glen and Gladstone Park as well as parts of Portage Park and Old Irving Park.
The winners were:
Best Bar: Fischman's Liquors
Best Restaurant: Gale Street Inn
Best Retail Establishment: Replica Chicago
Best Neighbor: Anna Zolkowski Sobor
Best Business Neighbor: Gale Street Inn
Best Community Organization or Non-Profit: Arts Alive Chicago
