NEAR WEST SIDE — Scafuri Bakery will give away free doughnuts in celebration of its one-year reopening anniversary Thursday.

The Italian Bakery, which was founded at 1337 W. Taylor St. in 1904, reopened its doors last May after being closed since 2007, when owner Annette Mategrano (nee Scafuri) retired.

Mategrano's great-great niece Kelly Lynch now runs the bakery.

Scafuri is open 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Thursday's doughnut giveaway will be limited to one per person.
