CHICAGO — A man tried to abduct a 5-year-old girl in Brighton Park Saturday afternoon, police said.

The girl was playing in a backyard adjacent to an alley in the 3500 block of South Mozart Street, police said, when a man walked into the yard from the alley sometime between 4:30 and 4:45 p.m.

The man told the girl to "come here" before trying to physically abduct her, police said. When he wasn't successful, the man ran into the alley, got into a black car and drove off toward 36th Street.

Witnesses told police the man was Hispanic with black hair that went below his ears. He was 25- to 35-years-old with a mustache and possibly a goatee. The man wore a blue hat, and witnesses said he had a black handgun.

Detectives ask anyone with information to call 312-747-8380 and reference case No. HX256479.
