CHICAGO — A man riding in a car is dead after being shot from another car in Calumet Heights late Friday morning, police said.

The 22-year-old man was in the front passenger seat of a car traveling north in the 9300 block of South Stony Island Avenue when shots were fired from a car that pulled alongside it about 11:35 a.m., said Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman.

The victim was identfied as William Lomax, of the 10000 block of South Yates Boulevard, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Lomax was shot once in his right torso and once in his back. He was driven to a restaurant in the 8800 block of Stony Island, where someone called 911.

Lomax was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Estrada said.

The shots were fired from a small, black car. The incident is believed to be gang-related, authorities said.
