CHICAGO — A 17-year-old boy was killed in the Austin neighborhood early Saturday morning.

The teen was standing in the 5500 block of West North Avenue about 2:05 a.m. when a gunman dressed in all black clothing approached from behind and fired at him, said Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman.

The teen was shot in his head, and the gunman fled. The boy was later identified as Jaquez Williams, of the 5400 block of West North Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Williams was pronounced dead on the scene at 2:35 a.m.

Police are investigating if the shooting was gang-related. Authorities said Williams had documented gang ties.

No one was in custody in connection with the shooting as of early Saturday morning.
