Man Dies After Thursday Afternoon Shooting

CHICAGO — A 19-year-old man died hours after being shot in North Lawndale Thursday afternoon, police said.

Demario Collins, who police originally said was 18, was riding in a car in the 1600 block of South St. Louis Avenue with another man and a woman when multiple shots were fired at the car around 3:05 p.m. Thursday, police said.

Collins was struck in his head, arm and shoulder, and the woman was shot in her buttocks. The two drove themselves to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where Collins was listed in critical condition and the woman in good condition.

Collins, of the 2100 block of South St. Louis succumbed to his injures at 8:13 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner, who listed his age as 29.

The second man, 21, was taken by ambulance to Mt. Sinai in good condition.

Collins was the second person killed in shootings Thursday afternoon.
