Car Crashes into Bret Harte Elementary After Police Chase

HYDE PARK — Three men are in custody after the car they were in crashed into a fence in front of Bret Harte Elementary School following a police chase, officials said.

According to police, officers responding to a report of gunshots at 4:15 p.m. Thursday on the 5700 block of South Cornell Ave. spotted a car leaving the scene on East Marquette.

The driver did not stop when police caught up to the car. The driver led officers on a chase into Hyde Park, where the driver crashed the car into a fence in front of Bret Harte, 1556 E. 56th St., according to police.

Police arrested the three men in the car, who were awaiting charges as of 2 p.m. Friday. Police declined to provide a description of the men.
