WICKER PARK — Mariano's is hiring for its future Bucktown-area store with a career fair next week.

The company is planning an open house career fair from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday at a hiring center at 1634 W. North Ave., according to a flier posted in the park and a hiring manager.

The flier says the Mariano's location will be open in June, though the company has not officially announced a date.

“We are looking for candidates with an understanding of foodie trends and customer service values,” Mariano's Chief Human Resources Officer Jess Terry said in an emailed statement. “We hope both experienced and entry-level applicants come talk to us from a wide variety of backgrounds, Foodservice & Hospitality for example — not just grocery.”

In the fall, the Milwaukee-based chain announced the store would be built on the former Hayes Mechanical site in the 2100 block of North Ashland Avenue, which is near the border of the Bucktown and Lincoln Park neighborhoods.

Spokesman Jim Hyland had said the store would be about 80,000 square feet.

Nearby, a 55,000-square-foot Ukrainian Village Mariano's opened in March at 2021 W. Chicago Ave. The location was staffed with 350 workers ahead of its grand opening, the company said.

The Ashland Avenue store is looking to hire 550 workers, including full-time and part-time positions, according to Terry.

Hyland has said 400 people are hired on average for openings of any Mariano's store.

The fair will welcome walk-ins for a quick interview, the flier says.
