CHICAGO — Traffic on Lake Shore Drive in Uptown was shut down after police found a suspicious package — which turned out to be a blue duffel bag with a sleeping bag inside, officials said.

Police received an anonymous call about the package about 11:50 a.m. Wednesday but were only able to find it about an hour later, possibly on a ramp, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.

Early Wednesday afternoon, northbound traffic was shut down between Wilson and Foster avenues, and at 2 p.m. traffic going both ways was restricted. Police began reopening the road to traffic shortly after.

Police sent in a robot and a K-9 crew to investigate the area near the package, directly next to Lake Shore Drive near the Lawrence Avenue exit ramp.

By 2:35 p.m., lanes in both directions had been reopened.

It is uncertain who left the bag there, police said.
