CHICAGO — Police are investigating the robbery of a man near the Ravenswood home of Mayor Rahm Emanuel Thursday morning.

Police said a 29-year-old man was walking in the 1700 block of West Berteau Avenue about 5:45 a.m. when a man got out of a white van and approached him.

The man implied he had a weapon, though no weapon was displayed, police said, and demanded the victim hand over his backpack. The victim complied, and the assailant got back in the van, which drove away.

The victim was able to find a police officer, and said that the backpack contained only clothes. He was not injured.

Area North detectives are investigating the incident, which occurred about a block from the mayor's house.
