GOOSE ISLAND — A man was shot inside a Near North nightclub early Tuesday morning, police said.

Police said the shooting happened about 3:15 a.m. Tuesday inside the Hearts nightclub in the 1100 block of North North Branch Street.

Several men in a hallway near the exit got into an argument, and one man pulled out a handgun and opened fire, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.

A 24-year-old man was shot in his upper chest. A friend took him to Rush University Medical Center, and he was later transferred in serious condition to John H. Stroger Hospital.

No one was in custody for the shooting as of Tuesday morning, police said.

Hours earlier, an 18-year-old man was shot in the Marquette Park neighborhood.

About 9:35 p.m., the teen was walking in an alley in the 7100 block of South Sacramento Avenue when a man began chasing, Alfaro said.

The teen fled, and as he ran, he heard shots and felt pain in his leg. He was later taken to Holy Cross Hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound in his leg, police said.
