CHICAGO — An alleged Satan Disciples street gang member already in jail on a pending murder case has been charged in the 2010 shooting death of a 22-year-old woman in Little Village, prosecutors said.

Luis Padin, 23, of the 2600 block of West Luther Street, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Jennifer Alvarado.

On Sept. 6, 2010, Alvarado was in a car near the intersection of 24th Street and Washtenaw Avenue with two other young women, prosecutors said. The three of them planned to pick up a fourth friend and go to a concert together.

But Padin allegedly pulled up next to them and asked what their gang affiliation was, police said.

Alvarado responded simply, "We're girls," as the car pulled away, prosecutors said. Padin stepped into 24th Street and started shooting, prosecutors said. One of the shots burst through the rear window of the girls' car, striking Alvarado in the back.

Police ultimately named Padin as the shooter after an anonymous informant identified him and witnesses picked him out of a photo array.

Padin was already in jail on an unrelated murder case from 2012 when police charged him, according to court records. He will be held without bail.
