Things to Do in Lincoln Park and Old Town This Weekend

CHICAGO — Some of the bets for how to spend this weekend in Lincoln Park and Old Town include a whisky class, an early morning zoo event, a performance from Art Garfunkel and more.

Friday

Southeast Asian Seafood at Whole Foods, 1550 N. Kingsbury St., 7-8 p.m.

Learn how to make fried fish cakes, green curry shrimp and clam hot pot before eating your creations. Participants will get recipes to take home. The class is $20. To sign up via phone, call 312-587-0648.

Sweet and Sour Poetry Hour at Next Door, 659 W. Diversey Parkway, 7-8:30 p.m.

The free open mic is hosted by performance artist and comedian Angela "Anjee-O" Oliver. Open mic sign-up starts at 6:45 p.m., and performances must be under five minutes.

Saturday

Morning Safari: Tour of the Tropics at Lincoln Park Zoo, 2001 N. Clark St., 9 a.m.

A zoo horticulturist an an animal expert will lead explorers on an early-morning tour of the Regenstein Small Mammal-Reptile House. The program lets people get a sneak peak at the exhibit before it opens to the public that day. The event is $10 for museum members and $13 for non-members.

"Meet Eleanor Roosevelt” at Lincoln Park Public Library, 1150 W. Fullerton Ave., 2-3 p.m.

Learn some more about Eleanor Roosevelt as historical dramatist Roberta Randall puts on a one-woman show.

Scotch Whisky Class at The Monkey’s Paw, 2524 N. Southport Ave., 3-5 p.m.

Gastropub The Monkey's Paw hosts a whisky class that includes learning about the history and production of Scottish whisky plus taking swigs of various kinds of Scotch. The class is $45, and space is limited.

Art Garfunkel at Park West, 322 W. Armitage Ave., 8 p.m.

The legendary musician performs at Park West for this all-ages, seated show. Tickets are $65.

Rod Tuffcurls and The Bench Press at Joe's Bar, 940 W. Weed St., 10:30 p.m.

For $10, see the local cover band Rod Tuffcurls and The Bench Press at Joe's Bar. The group covers a range of artists, including the The Beatles, Madonna, Dave Matthews Band and Miley Cyrus. Tickets are for those 21 and older. 

Sunday

Classic Desserts at Whole Foods, 1550 N. Kingsbury St., 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Aspiring confectionery wizards can learn how to make parfait cups, creme brulee and tiramisu. Any food not gobbled up during class can be taken home. The class is $30.
