HUMBOLDT PARK — A 61-year-old man has been charged in the fatal stabbing of a Humboldt Park man.

Police said Daniel Travis stabbed 47-year-old Gregory Shanks Wednesday afternoon during an argument in a building in the 700 block of North Trumbull Avenue.

About 3 p.m., police found Shanks lying on the floor of the building vestibule with stab wounds in his chest and head.

Travis, who lives on the block, was also inside the building and "openly admitted to stabbing" Shanks when a verbal argument escalated, police said.

Shanks, of the 600 block of North Homan Avenue, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:45 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Travis is expected to appear in bond court Friday, police said.
