CHICAGO — A 14-year-old boy was arrested and charged Wednesday after he accidentally shot a 14-year-old girl in Englewood.

The girl was shot in her thighs about 8:15 p.m. in the 6500 block of South Green Street, said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman. Police believe the girl was shot once, and the bullet traveled straight through one thigh and into the other.

The girl was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in "stable condition," Greer said.

A gun was recovered on the scene, and a 14-year-old boy was taken into custody, police said.

The boy was charged as a juvenile with unlawful use of a weapon, police said.
