EDGEWATER — The unnamed restaurateurs who planned to open a bar and restaurant in the former St. Andrew's Inn at 5938 North Broadway have "bowed out" of the deal, the building's broker said.

"We did have an operator that was taking over the space, but they have some other business ventures" to pursue, said Joe Padorr, of Seneca Real Estate Advisors. "They have bowed out for the time being."

Padorr had expected the group, which he declined to identify, to open the new business by summertime.

St. Andrew's Inn, which was also a bar and restaurant, closed several times in the past few years and never reopened after it closed last year.

Owner Julius Lamar didn't respond to a request for comment.

Padorr said other prospective tenants were interested in the space and that there was growing excitement surrounding North Broadway development.

Seneca Real Estate also manages the former Broadway Bank building at 5960 North Broadway. Padorr said the MB Financial branch there would soon be moving into its new building less than a block away.

He said several national chains had expressed interest in taking the bank's place.
