WICKER PARK — Making an aggressive expansion into the Chicago area, Mariano's Fresh Market has started to hire for its new Ukrainian Village store and hopes to fill 350 full- and part-time positions, a company official said.

Walk-in interviews kicked off Monday and will continue from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday at 1634 W. North Ave. in Wicker Park.

Attendees will meet one-on-one with a recruiter on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants should bring a copy of their resume and photo ID and dress professionally.

Next week, the interviews will move to the Ukrainian Village store, in a former Dominick's at 2021 W. Chicago Ave.

Mariano's has not released an official opening date for its Ukrainian Village store or Edgewater store at 5201 N. Sheridan Road.

The interviews do not require an appointment. The chain is seeking both experienced and entry-level applicants, said Jess Terry, chief of the Human Resources Department of Mariano's. The company will consider professionals from the restaurant, catering and other hospitality industries, Terry said.

"Mariano’s puts customer service at the forefront of everything we do. We want people who are passionate about customer service and high-quality food. There is a wide array of paths within Mariano’s," Terry said.

"Some people could leave [the hiring center] with a new career," Terry added.

Just west of Ashland Avenue, the Wicker Park hiring center is near a 80,000-square-foot Mariano's under construction at 2212 N. Ashland Ave., which will be called "Mariano's Bucktown."

Terry said the group planned to be back at the hiring center in April when they begin recruiting for the Bucktown Mariano's location.

Both the Ukrainian Village and Edgewater stores are hiring for a host of positions, including bagging, bakery, catering, cashiers, coffee bar, deli, department managers, floral, food demonstrations, hot foods/line cook, meat and seafood, overnight stocking, produce/salad bar, store management, sushi, and wine and spirits.
