CHICAGO — A 28-year-old woman has died more than a decade after she was beaten in East Garfield Park. Police have ruled the case a homicide.

Shantil Moore, who lived in a nursing home in the 2400 block of West Touhy Avenue, was pronounced dead at 1:06 p.m. Monday at Kindred Hospital.

Moore was badly beaten in East Garfield Park on Aug. 4, 2003, authorities said. She was standing in the 200 block of North Homan Avenue when "an unknown offender" hit her in her head and body, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a police spokeswoman.

Moore was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital at the time.

Investigators at the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said Moore died of sepsis, cervicospinal injuries and assault. Her death was ruled a homicide.

No one has been charged, Pacheco said.
