CHICAGO — A man died after a Burnside house fire Friday night, officials said.

Firefighters responded to an alarm in the 700 block of East 88th Place at 8:41 p.m. and found a fire in a rear bedroom on the second floor of a 2.5-story house, said Fire Chief Juan Hernandez, a spokesman for the department.

Peter Stewart, 81, was pulled out of his home and taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:29 p.m., according to Hernandez and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Stewart's wife survived the fire uninjured and is living with family, Hernandez said.
