CHICAGO — Police uncovered hundreds of bootleg DVDs following a routine traffic stop in Norwood Park Tuesday.
When officers pulled over a driver who didn't stop for an ambulance in the 5400 block of North Harlem Avenue, they realized he was driving on a suspended license and his car was subject to impound, police said.
During a search of the car, officers found "numerous DVD movies in plastic sleeves" with homemade labels, police said. Some of the movies on the DVDs are still being shown in theaters.
Chicago and Melrose Park police searched the man's west suburban home and seized roughly 400 bootleg DVDs, 500 blank DVDs, labels, label-making equipment and two pieces of recording equipment.
According to police photos, movie titles included "The World's End," "Up," "The Smurfs" and "Snow White."
Prudencio Nepomuceno-Zayuca, 39, of the 1200 block of North 17th Avenue in Melrose Park, was charged with one felony count of unlawful use of recorded sounds or images. He was also ticketed for not yielding to an ambulance and driving on a suspended license.
Nepomuceno-Zayuca was slated to appear in bond court Wednesday.
