Man Killed in West Garfield Park Shooting

CHICAGO — A 25-year-old man died after being shot in West Garfield Park Thursday afternoon, police said.

Police responded to a call of shots fired in the 900 block of South Springfield Street and found the man shot in the chest about 4:20 p.m. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition where he later died, police said.

Eric Woods, who lived on the block where he was found, was pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai at 5:02 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.

No one is in custody and a homicide investigation is underway, police said.
