CHICAGO — A Calumet Heights man is facing several felony charges after a raid at his home netted guns and drugs and ended with two dogs being shot.

Police were searching the man's home Monday when two pit bulls rushed the officers, police said.

Officers shot the dogs, killing one animal and injuring another.

Byron White, 41, was charged with three counts of unlawful use of weapon by a felon, one felony count of possession of a firearm with defaced serial number, two felony counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and one felony count of manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance.

Police came with a warrant to his home in the 9200 block of South Merill Avenue about 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Police said they arrested him after they found two loaded handguns, including one with a defaced serial number, as well as illegal drugs in the home.
