NORTH CENTER — As violent crime continues to plague Chicago, the American Theater Company presents a performance piece that examines the cause of deadly acts and their effect on the surrounding community.
"Killadelphia: mixtape of a city" is a one-man play written by Sean Christopher Lewis in the wake of 2008's particularly murderous summer in Philadelphia. The free show, part of ATC's Town Hall Series, is scheduled for 8 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, 1909 W. Byron St.
Lewis tackles 20 roles during the evening, giving voice to prison inmates, murder victims and their families, politicians and trauma surgeons, among others.
A talkback with Lewis — the inaugural recipient of the Rosa Parks Award for Social Justice in Playwriting from the Kennedy Center — will follow each performance.
Though the show is being presented free of charge, members of the audience are invited to pay what they can.
