CHICAGO — Three women were injured early Saturday morning when a gas explosion ripped apart a home in Pilsen, fire officials said.

Firefighters arrived at the in the 1300 block of West Cullerton Avenue around 5 a.m., where they determined a gas explosion was responsible for blowing off the second-floor siding of the two-story home.

The explosion injured three women, said Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford. Two women in their 20s were taken to Stroger Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, he said. One woman declined to be taken to a hospital.

Five ambulances were initially dispatched to the scene.
