South Chicago Fire Aftermath Reveals Body of Dead Man

CHICAGO — Firefighters found a dead man after putting out a minor fire in a South Chicago home Friday morning, officials said.

The firefighters were called to the 8300 block of South Baker Avenue shortly after 6 a.m. to fight a blaze on the first floor of a 2½-story home, according to Larry Langford, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman.

After dousing those flames, firefighters searching the home found a dead man believed to be in his 50s, Langford said.

The cause of his death and the fire are under investigation, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said is could not determine the gender or approximate age of the victim, and has been unable to identify the body.
