MCKINLEY PARK — Once again, doughnuts save the day.

Huck Finn Donuts, the venerable 24-hour diner in McKinley Park, will be serving up big batches of heart-shaped donuts on Friday morning, just in time for last-minute Valentine's Day gifts.

The heart-shaped doughnuts cost $2.50 each.  Want to order a whole dozen?

"Just give us a heads up," said Demetri Hiotis, who manages the location at the corner of Archer and Damen avenues.

The Hiotis family has operated the local chain since the 1970s, eventually expanding to three locations, including the de facto headquarters and main bakery at 6650 S. Pulaski Road, which will kick out about nine or 10 dozen of the special doughnuts treats for each store.

But Hiotis said interested customers shouldn't dawdle. In each of the past five or six years they've run the promotion, he said, they've sold out quickly.

Huck Finn Restaurant is located at 3414 S. Archer Ave. and open 24 hours daily. 773-247-5515
