LOGAN SQUARE — As the 2300 block of North Milwaukee Avenue quickly becomes the city's new ground zero for high-concept food and drink, a new spot on the booming strip hopes to offer a little health amidst the baked goods, booze and burgers.

The owners of Owen + Alchemy, a "chef-driven" cold-pressed juice bar, are hoping to open in between the soon-to-open Slippery Slope and the recently opened Chicago Distilling Company sometime this spring.

According to a news release, the juice bar will offer artisanal juices, smoothies, vegetarian dishes and more.

"I think it's serving perhaps an underserved market in Chicago, so bringing this type of establishment will make big difference," said Sarah Grothaus of H2 Public Relations. "It's a really progressive health-focused menu, and the juices are the main event, but also you can take home a bunch of snacks."

The fresh-pressed juice industry has turned into a $5 billion business nationwide, Grothaus said.

Owen + Alchemy will be run by former magazine publisher and Chicago native Anne Owen and chef Jared Van Camp of Old Town Social and Nellcote.

Grothaus said the pair hope to be up and running this spring, around the same time several other new spots are looking to open.

"That block has a lot of exciting things coming up," Grothaus said. "I think they're thrilled to be part of that whole movement."
