LAKEVIEW — A clothing chain priding itself on simple, comfortable clothes is opening a shop on Southport.
Splendid plans to open at 3510 N. Southport Ave. in early April, according to Julia Austin, a spokeswoman for the company.
The Los Angeles-based casual clothing brand for men and women already has 27 retail shops and three outlet stores across the country and Canada, including one at Old Orchard Mall in Skokie. It's also sold in department stores such as Bloomingdales and Nordstrom.
The brand's clothes are also popular with celebrities.
The Southport shop will be designed much like all the other ones — with a "beachy" Southern California vibe, Austin said.
Splendid's future opening on Southport continues with the trend of the commercial corridor turning into a hotspot for clothing retailers. Hot Mama opened recently at 3440 N. Southport Ave, and investor L3 Capital has said it wants to fill some of its seven buildings on the street with more high-end national and international clothing retailers.
