CHICAGO — A woman guilty of murdering a Chicago Police officer at a North Center bus stop in 2008 was sentenced to life in prison, prosecutors said.

Cook County Judge Thomas Gainer sentenced Robin Johnson to life in prison plus 15 years Wednesday for killing Richard Francis at a CTA bus stop near 2401 W. Belmont Ave.

Francis, 60, was flagged down by a CTA bus driver to resolve a dispute between Johnson and a woman getting off a bus early on July 2, 2008, prosecutors said.

Francis tried to calm down Johnson, but she attacked him, prosecutors said. The two ended up on the ground, and Johnson grabbed his gun, according to prosecutors.

After Francis got up, he put his hands up, and Johnson shot him in the head, prosecutors said. Johnson was found guilty of first-degree murder in 2013.

Chicago Police Officer Richard Francis was killed on July 2, 2008, after he responded to a disturbance on a bus in North Center.
