CHICAGO — A man was in serious-to-critical condition after jumping from a window of a burning building in Near West Side Monday morning,

The blaze started inside a four-story building in the 1800 block of West Jackson Boulevard about 8:15 a.m., authorities said.

A 53-year-old man jumped from a third-story window of the building and was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Juan Hernandez said.

It was not immediately clear how the fire started.
