LOGAN SQUARE — Another fitness center is going to open soon in Logan Square, and this one will include two separate locations on Milwaukee Avenue.
Logan Square Fitness is planning to open a traditional 7,000-square-foot gym with cardio and weight-lifting equipment at 2734 N. Milwaukee Ave. as well as an 8,000-square-foot location for fitness classes at 2778 N. Milwaukee Ave., above the Gap Outlet store.
Logan Square Fitness' manager said the gym will have the separate locations because no one space in the area was large enough to accommodate the whole thing.
"Anywhere in the neighborhood with 15,000 square feet is pretty much nonexistent," manager Ryan Sayers said. "But they will just be half a block away from each other."
Sayers said the location above the Gap Outlet will host 35 classes a week on everything from body sculpting and boxing to a few different styles of yoga. Both facilities are set to open in late March or early April, Sayers said.
The owners of Logan Square Fitness also own Wicker Park Fitness, Southport Fitness in Lakeview, and Ludlow Fitness in New York City.
Ald. Rey Colon (35th) said he welcomes the addition of the gym to the stretch of Milwaukee that includes his ward office.
"To be getting some nicer businesses that are really relevant to people that live here and that are going to attract people to live here is really a welcome sight," he said.
The Logan Square Fitness locations will join an LA Fitness that is planned in Logan Square, at 2719 N. California Ave., a city employee confirmed last week, though that company has yet to make an official announcement.
