CHICAGO — A woman spotted by someone falling into icy Lake Michigan was rescued by firefighters Saturday morning, officials said.
The 31-year-old woman was rescued near Diversey Harbor in Lincoln Park after a witness saw her fall through the ice about 7 a.m., said Fire Chief Juan Hernandez, a spokesman for the fire department.
It is unclear why the woman was on the ice; she was taken to Weiss Memorial Hospital in serious condition.
"They found her right away, so all this occurred within the span of 15 to 20 minutes," Hernandez said.
The rescue was completed before police arrived on scene, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman.
