WEST ROGERS PARK — An empty storefront and former bar at Touhy and Ridge avenues will soon be serving pitas and pizza, said the owner of restaurant chain Pockets.

Pockets, which has eight Chicago locations and two in suburban Aurora, was founded 25 years ago by David Litchmin.

Litchmin said his newest restaurant would mirror his others, and open in late spring or early summer at 7126 N. Ridge Ave.

"We felt that the neighborhood was a bit underserved with healthier, alternative fast food," he said.

The eatery will serve pitas, calzones, pizza, salads and more. There will be seating for 24 people, but most business is take out and delivery, he said.

He said he planned to hire about 10 employees.

The next nearest location is in Lincoln Square, at 4301 N. Lincoln Ave.
