CHICAGO — Connie's Pizza wants to help make the second dose of crazy-cold weather a little more tolerable.

The Bridgeport-based pizzeria chain is offering a "Double Pizzas Until Chicago Hits Double Digits" promotion to help customers cope with the arctic blast.

That's right: two for one pizzas until the temperature reaches 10 degrees. The deal was announced on the Connie's Pizza Facebook page Monday. It's good for delivery, carry out or dine-in at two of the pizzeria's locations: 2373 S. Archer Ave. and 1030 N. State St. in the Gold Coast.

"The weather is keeping the dining room business away, so we're trying to supplement that," said company president Mike Stolfe.

But if you're hungry, you should act quick: according to this National Weather Service chart, temperatures are forecasted to reach above 10 degrees about 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Stolfe said the weather has factored in pizza sales at Connie's since the company was started by his father Jim in the 1960s.

"Our busiest times would be in the hot summer days. Our trucks would be driving around the neighborhood and the calls would just light up. Going up and down Lowe Avenue everyone would be on their stoops and we'd get 20 deliveries," he said. "Nowadays it's social media instead of stoops."

It's the second time around for the promotion. During the first so-called polar vortex — "when it was just God-awful cold," Stolfe said — Connie's sold about 800 pizzas.

According to the Facebook page, it's even more of a hit. More than 1,600 people have claimed the latest offer.
