UPTOWN — In the midst of a frigid Chicago winter, a warm and spicy bowl of chili sounds like a great idea — but what about eight bowls?

Even better — as long as your tummy is prepared.

Crew Bar and Grill is hosting its ninth annual chili cook-off from noon-2:30 p.m. Saturday.

After buying a ballot for $12, you can sample eight chilies from cooks competing for top honors and vote for your three favorite, organizers said.

The cook behind the winning chili gets a trophy and $100. Crew, a popular sports-themed gay bar at 4804 N. Broadway, is also awarding the cook with the best presentation (station decorations or costume) with a $50 Crew gift card.

NBC5 Chicago contributor Wayne Johnson will emcee the event.

All proceeds will benefit Edgewater food pantry Care for Real. Last year's event raised $1,500 for the pantry, organizers said.
