HYDE PARK — Hyde Park will play host to the state’s leading Republicans deep in the heat of election season.

The self-styled politically progressive hub of the South Side will welcome the four Republican gubernatorial candidates March 4 for a forum at the University of Chicago.

Bill Brady, Kirk Dillard, Bruce Rauner and Dan Rutherford will participate in a 1-1/2-hour forum at the Logan Center for the Performing Arts, 915 E. 60th St., moderated by Carol Marin of NBC5.

After being peppered with questions by Marin for an hour, the candidates will respond to questions from the audience for a half hour. Organizers are asking people to submit questions ahead of the forum via Twitter using the hashtag #ILGovTalk and then attend to ask their questions directly of the candidates.

The forum is open to public, but space is limited. Tickets will be available starting Feb. 24.

The event is organized by the university’s Institute of Politics.

“For our students, it’s a unique chance to witness firsthand one of the great rites of democracy, free and open forum,” said David Axelrod, director of the institute and former campaign adviser to President Barack Obama.

The event is co-hosted by the Harris School of Public Policy and NBC5.
