ENGLEWOOD — As snow continues to pile up in Chicago, a free winter boot giveaway tentatively scheduled for next month couldn't come soon enough.

Toyota Motor Sales USA is set to give away boots to up to 100 families through its "Walk in My Boots" initiative, officials said.

While plans are still being finalized, the giveaway is scheduled for Feb. 8. The place has yet to be determined, as is the procedure for obtaining the footware, which will be announced at a later date.

"An event like this is important to have because it is important for residents to see that people care about Englewood," said Lt. Corey Hughes, administrator for the Red Shield Center. "Children must accompany their parents to receive a pair of boots and family size does not matter. Everyone will receive a pair of winter boots."

Curtis McAllister, a spokesman for Toyota, said the company has done a similar event in Detroit for the past three years.

The event is on the same day the annual Chicago Auto Show at the McCormick Place begins.
