CHICAGO — A Logan Square man has been charged with hitting a woman and slamming their 1-year-old daughter to the ground Sunday night, police said.

The incident occurred 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the 2800 block of North Spaulding Avenue, the same block where 21-year-old Julian Alequin lives, police said.

Alequin hit her 24-year-old mother during an argument before throwing the baby to the ground, causing serious head injuries, according to cops.

The baby was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, where she is in critical condition.

Alequin was charged with a count of felony aggravated battery to a child causing permanent disability. He also faces three misdemeanor counts of resisting and/or obstructing a police officer, two misdemeanor counts of assaulting a police officer and one misdemeanor count of domestic battery.

Alequin is due in bond court Wednesday.
