RAVENSWOOD — Now in its 18th year, the annual Ravenswood Run 5K continues to reinvent itself.

New in 2014: short competitive dashes for youngsters.

For the first time, children ages two to 10 are eligible to register for the event. Kids two and three years old will compete in the 20-yard dash, ages four to seven will race the 50-yard dash, and eight- to 10-year-olds will go the 100-yard distance.

Registration, now open online, costs $15 per child and $35 per adult. The number of entrants is capped at 4,000.

Returning this year is the popular post-race pancake breakfast, which can be purchased for a $10 donation (available to non-racers too), with all of the money benefiting the Ravenswood Community Services Food Pantry at All Saints' Episcopal Church. For every $10, the food pantry is able to purchase 100 pounds of food.

The 5K will kick off at 8 p.m. on April 27 at 4550 N. Hermitage Ave.; the kids' start time follows at 8:30 a.m.
