CHICAGO — Police are warning Woodlawn residents of a sexual assault in the neighborhood that occurred earlier this week.

Around 12 p.m. on Tuesday, a teenage girl walking in the 6200 block of South University Avenue was sexually assaulted by a black man between the ages of 19 and 20 wielding a large kitchen knife, police said.

Police said the man was wearing a dark knit hat, dark coat, dark scarf, dark pants and "web textured" Timberland boots during the attack. The man stands about 5-foot-7 and weighs about 150 pounds.

Anyone with information about the attack should contact Area Central detectives at 312-747-8380.
