CHICAGO — A Logan Square man died of hypothermia in the waning hours of subzero temperatures Tuesday, according to autopsy results.

Bernabe Garcia, 49, of the 2100 block of North Lawndale Avenue was pronounced dead when he was found in the 3600 block of West Palmer Avenue at 5:55 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

In addition to hypothermia, the medical examiner's office listed cold exposure and alcohol intoxication as contributors to his death, which has been ruled an accident.

Garcia has been the only person from the city to die from this week's frigid weather.

For 37 hours from Monday to Tuesday, Chicagoans experienced subzero temperatures, according to the National Weather Service. Monday's low was 16 degrees below zero, a record, and Tuesday's was 10 degrees below zero.
