COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A second man has been charged in a 2009 Albany Park shooting that claimed two people's lives.
Samuel Parsons-Salas, 23, of the 3800 block of North Nordica Avenue, faces two counts of first-degree murder. He was ordered held without bail by Cook County Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil on Sunday.
Police believe Parsons-Salas was one of the men responsible for a double homicide that happened on Sept. 21, 2009.
A second alleged shooter, Christopher Doehring, was charged in January 2011 with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of armed robbery and two counts of home invasion.
Doehring and Parsons-Salas armed themselves, a .380-caliber handgun for Doehring and a .22-caliber gun for Parson-Salas, so that they could do a "lick" in an apartment building in the 3500 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, according to Assistant State's Attorney Jacqueline Kwilos.
About 1 a.m., the gunmen kicked in the front door of the apartment while the victims, 23-year-old Alex Santiago and 19-year-old Angelina Escobar, were sleeping, according to Kwilos and a police arrest report.
Doehring allegedly went into the bedroom, where Santiago and Escobar lay in bed. He then shot Santiago in his head before shooting Escobar multiple times, Kwilos said.
Both Doehring and Parsons-Salas fled the apartment after taking cocaine and marijuana from the home and went into a waiting van, according to Kwilos. The proceeds were divided between Doehring and Parson-Salas, Kwilos said.
Several witnesses identified Parsons-Salas as one of the shooters, according to police.
Police arrested Parsons-Salas on Friday, and he was charged Saturday.
