NORTH CENTER — There are about a gazillion things to do on New Year's Eve — unless you're 5, in which case your options are pretty much limited to staying home and getting sent to bed before all the fun starts.

Homegrown Cafe, 4343 N. Lincoln Ave., is offering an alternative with a kids and family New Year's Eve celebration from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Chef Gilbert Langlois has created a $14 prix fixe menu for children 10 and under, including a sparkling cider toast at 6 p.m., which is when Icelanders will officially ring in 2014.

Adults can get in on the action too. For $24, grown-ups receive an entree, dessert and champagne.

Call 773-477-7144 for reservations.
