Two Killed, at Least 18 Wounded in Last Weekend of 2013

CHICAGO — In the last weekend of 2013, 18 people were shot, two fatally, in violence that stretched across the city.

Overnight, six people were shot, including a 22-year-old man gunned down after an argument at a bar in Pilsen, police said.

About 2:05 a.m. Monday morning, the 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old man were in a car in the 1300 block of West Cermak Road when someone in a dark-colored SUV fired shots after an argument in a bar. The 22-year-old was shot in the head and taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, where he later died, said Officer Michael Sullivan, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

The man had not been identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as of Monday morning.

The other man, 21, also was shot in the head and was in stable condition at Mount Sinai Hospital,  Sullivan said.

Around 1:50 a.m. Monday, a 35-year-old man was shot in the leg in an attempted robbery in Rogers Park, police said. The man was standing in the 6900 block of North Sheridan Road when two men left a dark vehicle and demanded money. When the man refused, one of the men shot him in the leg. The shooter and other man re-entered their vehicle and fled. The 35-year-old man was taken to St. Francis Hospital in "stable" condition, said Sullivan.

Around 12:05 a.m. Monday, a 20-year-old man was shot while in the driver's seat of a car parked in the 11300 South Carpenter Street in Morgan Park. The shooter got out of a car and fired shots striking the 20-year-old in the elbow and armpit. He was "stable" after driving himself to Roseland Hospital, police said.

Around 9:35 p.m. Sunday evening, a 22-year-old was shot in the buttocks by someone in a dark van while he stood in the 2400 block of South Harding Avenue in Little Village, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, Sullivan said.

Around 8:20 p.m. Sunday, a 20-year-old was in a parked car in the 4700 block of South Western Avenue in Brighton Park when a dark-colored car pulled up and shots were fired from inside, Sullivan said. The man drove himself to Holy Cross Hospital, police said.

Sunday, four people were wounded in shootings that stretched from Austin to West Roseland.

Craig Williams, 23 was fatally shot and seven others were wounded in shootings Friday night and Saturday.
