Man Identified in Fatal Car Crash That Killed Two

CHICAGO — Two people are dead after a car collided with a utility pole on the Southwest Side just after midnight Sunday.

Police said a man was driving an SUV northbound on California Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle and hit a utility pole in the 3700 block of South California Avenue in Brighton Park.

The man and a woman he was with were pronounced dead at the scene, said Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.

The cause of the accident is unknown, said Alfaro.

The man was identified as Jorge Guerrero, 27, of the 3300 block of West 38th Street in Brighton Park. He was pronounced dead early  Sunday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The woman in the vehicle has not been identified.
