Man, 65, Killed in Hit-and-Run on South Side

 A 65-year-old man was stepping onto the street near a bus stop in the 1000 block of West 59th Street Thursday when he was struck and killed by a maroon van about 4:40 p.m., according to Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

CHICAGO — A man died Thursday night after he was struck by a van in Englewood.

The 65-year-old man was stepping onto the street near a bus stop on the 1000 block of West 59th Street when a maroon van hit him at about 4:40 p.m., according to Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The suspect fled and is not in custody, police said.

The victim was identified as Jeffrey Bond, of the 5800 block of South Carpenter Street. He was pronounced dead at 5:23 p.m. at Stroger Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
